Intellectual property and the development of firms

Intellectual property and the development of firms

2020-11-09

The stages of a firm’s development can influence how the firm views intellectual property rights.  Safari (2017) studied the relationship between venture capital investing and patenting for companies worldwide.  Guang-Lih Huang (2017) built a conceptual framework for intellectual property rights as companies shift from open access knowledge to patented technology.  Naghavi, Peng, and Tsai (2017) provided a study of intellectual property rights and the choice of suppliers by host countries of multinational products in global supply chains.

The research of intellectual property rights can be studied on the relationship with patents and company metrics.  Hariyati, Waspodo Tjipto, Sofa Nur Ihtiari, and Yatim (2017) examined intellectual property and intellectual capital with company performance.  Mercelis (2016) described a combination of secrecy and patenting in the protection of corporate intellectual property rights.  Koutras (2015) described the significance of intellectual property rights and the international conventions and agreements describing intellectual property rights.

Some regulations have developed that assist in governing international intellectual property rights.  Ho (2015) explained how the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights required all countries to provide basic levels of intellectual property rights.  Evers, Miller, and Spengel (2015) described the development of intellectual property box regimes to support the development of companies that develop intellectual property.  Gürpınar (2016) described how the privatization of knowledge may present obstacles to innovative production schemes of technology.
